NARRATOR: TOBY AND HENRIETTA ARE ENJOYING THEIR NEW JOB ON THE ISLAND OF SODOR, BUT THEY DID LOOK OLD AND NEEDED NEW PAINT. SAM AND BEN LOVED TRAVELLING ON THEM.
SAM: THANKS FOR THE TRIP, TOBY!
BEN: YEAH YOU'RE A REALLY USEFUL ENGINE!
NARRATOR: TOBY SMILED. THEN JAMES FUSSLED IN. HE WAS VERY RUDE WHENEVER HE SAW THEM.
JAMES: UGH. WHAT DIRTY OBJECTS!
NARRATOR: AT LAST, SAM AND BEN LOST PATIENCE.
BEN: WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU, JAMES?
SAM: YEAH WHY ARE YOU SO RED?
JAMES: I AM A SPLENDID ENGINE! READY FOR ANYTHING, YOU NEVER SEE MY PAINT DIRTY!
TOBY: OH. THAT'S WHY YOU ONCE NEEDED BOOTLACES TO BE READY I SUPPOSE!
SAM: BEN, I THINK WE BETTER GO WITH JAMES TO MAKE SURE HE DOESN'T GET INTO TROUBLE!
BEN: GOOD IDEA SAM. LET'S GO!
NARRATOR: BEN AND SAM HOPPED INTO JAMES' CAB. JAMES WENT REDDER THAN EVER AND SNORTED OFF. IT WAS SUCH AN INSUT TO BE REMINDED OF THE TIME A BOOTLACE HAVE BEEN USED TO MEND A HOLE IN HIS COACHES. AT THE END OF THE LINE, JAMES LEFT HIS COACHES AND GOT READY FOR HIS NEXT TRAIN. IT WAS A SLOW GOODS, STOPPING AT EVERY STATION TO PICK UP AND SET DOWN TRUCKS. JAMES HATED SLOW GOODS TRAINS.
BEN: WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT TRUCKS, JAMES?
JAMES: DIRTY TRUCKS FROM DIRTY SIDINGS! YUCK!
SAM: COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF!
NARRATOR: STARTING WITH ONLY A FEW, THEY PICKED UP MORE AND MORE TRUCKS AT EACH STATION TILL THEY HAD A LONG TRAIN. AT FIRST THE TRUCKS BEHAVED WELL BUT JAMES BUMPED THEM SO CROSSLY THAT THEY WERE DETERMINED TO GET HIM BACK. PRESENTLY, THEY REACHED THE TOP OF GORDON'S HILL.
BEN: OH MAN. I HOPE JAMES REMEMBERS THAT HE HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH TRUCKS BEFORE!
NARRATOR: BEN WAS RIGHT TO DOUBT BECAUSE JAMES DIDN'T REMEMBER ABOUT IT.
SAM: CAN YOU WAIT A SEC JAMES? WE'RE AT THE TOP OF THE HILL NOW!
NARRATOR: BUT JAMES WOULDN'T WAIT. HE WAS STILL THINKING ABOUT WHAT HE WOULD SAY TO TOBY WHEN THEY NEXT MET.
BEN: OH THAT'S NOT GOOD!
SAM: WHAT'S WRONG?
BEN: THE TRUCKS SEE THEIR CHANCE FOR MISCHIEF!
TRUCKS: HURRAH HURRAH!
NARRATOR: AND BANGING THEIR BUFFERS, THEY PUSHED JAMES DOWN THE HILL.
TRUCKS: ON ON ON!
JAMES: I GOT TO STOP! I GOT TO STOP!
BEN: IT'S NO GOOD, JAMES! THE BRAKES ARE STIFF!
SAM: WE'RE GOING TO CRASH!
NARRATOR: THROUGH THE STATION THEY THUNDERED, DISASTER LAY AHEAD!
NARRATOR: SOMETHING STICKY SPLASHED ALL OVER JAMES!
SAM: Stay right there James!Im goanna call for help. Ben, you stay and keep James company!
BEN: Sounds like a plan!
Narrator: James had run into tar wagons and was black from smokebox to cab. He was more dirty than hurt, but the tar wagons and some trucks were hauled to pieces.
BEN: Don't worry, James! I'm sure Sam will be back for some help! And here is some help now!
SAM: I'm back, Ben with Percy and Toby!
NARRATOR: They came as quickly as they could.
TOBY: Look here Percy. Whatever is that dirty object?
PERCY: That's James!
BEN: Yeah. Didn't you know?
TOBY: It's James' shape. But James is a splendid red engine and you never see his paint dirty!
NARRATOR: James pretended he hadn't heard.
SAM: Looks like someone's learnt his lesson!
NARRATOR: Sam, Ben, Toby and Percy cleared away the unhurt trucks and helped James home. The Fat Controller met them.
The Fat Controller: Well done Percy and Toby, Ben and Sam.
BEN: Thank you, Sir!
SAM: Thank you, Sir!
NARRATOR: He turned to James.
THE FAT CONTROLLER: Fancy letting your trucks run away. I am surprised. You're not fit to be seen you must be clean at once. Toby will have a new coat of paint.
TOBY: Please Sir. Can Henrietta have one too?
THE FAT CONTROLLER: Certainly, Toby!
TOBY: Oh thank you sir she will be pleased!
NARRATOR: All James could do was watch Toby as he ran off happilly with the news!
